The link between climate change and ESG criteria in the health and care sectors through the use of Artificial Intelligence was highlighted by Spyros Kouvelis, Co-Founder of Verimpact and Board Member of the European Mission Ocean, and Christina Deligianni, CEO & Co-Founder of Verimpact / EU Climate Pact Ambassador, during the 3rd edition of the BioMed-AI Summer School, held from May 26 to 28, 2025, in Lyon, France.

Verimpact supported and participated in the summer school for the third consecutive year. The summer school, organized by the Digital Health Literacy & Policy Hub, was hosted by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organization (WHO) and supported by the Institute for Sustainable Development – EPLO and the Archimedes Center (Athena Research Center).

This year’s edition served as a dynamic forum for the exchange of ideas and collaboration in the fields of biomedical research, artificial intelligence, and bioethics, attracting young scientists, researchers, policymakers, and innovative companies from across Europe and beyond.

Among this year’s distinguished speakers were:

  • Professor Dimitris Nanopoulos, Academic and Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Texas A&M University
  • Dr. Olga Tzortzatou-Nanopoulou, CEO & Co-Founder of the Digital Health Literacy & Policy Hub
  • Dr. Andreas Mershin, Researcher at MIT and Founder of RealNose.ai
  • Dr. Nikos Kyrpides, Head at the DOE-Joint Genome Institute (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory)
  • Professor John Ioannidis, Stanford University School of Medicine

Verimpact, firmly committed to promoting sustainability, responsible innovation, and the integration of ESG strategies in healthcare, actively contributed to the program through presentations and thematic sessions on artificial intelligence, climate resilience, and responsible health policy. Notably, the presentation of NeuroClima Blueprints, an innovative digital tool aimed at enhancing community resilience to the climate crisis, stood out.

The two co-founders of Verimpact extensively discussed the challenges and opportunities arising from AI applications in health and sustainability, as well as key EU policy developments, including the new Omnibus regulation and the AI Act. Good governance, trust-building, and responsible research remain central elements in integrating ESG criteria in healthcare and research.
