Earlier this month, Verimpact had the honour of participating in the first #ClimateTalk of 2026, expertly organised by the German Embassy in Abu Dhabi, on the sidelines of a study visit by the Bundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik. Climate change adaptation, security and resilience were at the core of this high-level dialogue—bringing together perspectives from government, industry, civil society and youth advocacy.
Climate as a Risk Multiplier
The discussion reinforced a critical reality: climate change is not only an environmental issue—it is a systemic security challenge.
Speakers provided diverse yet interconnected insights:
- Christian Marcus Kaul (Federal Chancellery) outlined Germany’s evolving approach to addressing climate-related security risks.
- Kim Naumann from Munich Re highlighted the underestimated yet pivotal role of insurance in risk management and resilience building.
- Youth climate advocate Emaan Danish Khan shared powerful grassroots perspectives, reminding us that intergenerational equity must be central to policy frameworks.
- Sean Robertson (IN2) provided regional insights on how climate stress interacts with conflict dynamics across the Middle East.
The overarching message was clear: integrated, cross-sector approaches are essential to manage climate-related security implications.
Informing Our Work
For Verimpact, these discussions directly inform our ongoing work on:
- AI-enabled ESG and non-financial risk intelligence
- Climate risk foresight and policy simulation
- Adaptation pathways under projects such as NEUROCLIMA
- Bridging governance, finance and resilience frameworks across the EU and GCC
It was particularly meaningful to reconnect policy, climate and security conversations—areas that are increasingly inseparable in today’s geopolitical landscape.
We extend our sincere thanks to Andreas Feil for including us in this important discourse and look forward to continuing the conversation with partners across the UAE and Germany.
